Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 1.1 Support & Maintain Existing Systems
Monitor health of systems (includes, but not limited to VMware ESXi, Windows, Linux)
Diagnose and fix hardware and software errors.
Extend volumes in Windows and Linux servers as needed.
Install firmware updates to systems.
Install OS level and software updates to Windows and Linux servers.
Restart VM’s as needed.
Manage disk tape backup systems
1.2 Research & Deploy New Systems
Research possible hardware and software solutions based on business requirements.
Deploy new Windows and Linux servers, and virtual appliances in a VMware vSphere environment.
1.3 Assist Desktop Support Team
Act as escalation point for Desktop Support team on problems they are unable to resolve.
Mentor Desktop Support team members who desire become a Systems Administrator or Systems Engineer.
1.4 Participate in On-Call Rotation
Weekly on-call rotation for after-hours system break-fix, and as the escalation point for Desktop Support.
1.5 Domestic & International Travel
Occasional travel to multiple STR offices within the US will be required.
Opportunities for international travel to STR offices might be available.
Must document all system modifications, deployment process for new systems, break-fix resolutions, and hours worked.
Qualifications & Experience
A minimum of three years working as a Systems Engineer in a Windows Active Directory network.
B.S. in Information Technology, Computer Technology or similar discipline; or relevant IT certification, such as MCSE.
STR’s infrastructure consists of primarily Windows but includes a few Linux servers and Linux based virtual appliances. Ability to perform basic Linux system administration is desirable.
STR has a small Network and Security team responsible for supporting the global network, but the System Engineering team sometimes assists. Experience in route/switch configuration and troubleshooting is desirable.
